Supporting healthier, stronger & more connected communities

Moving Moi CIC is proud to support Communities Keeping Well (CKW), an innovative community-led health and wellbeing programme bringing together residents, GPs, Public Health, voluntary and community organisations and local partners across Tower Hamlets.
The programme works within eight neighbourhoods across the borough, supporting communities experiencing higher levels of health inequality and long-term health conditions. Its focus is not simply on delivering activities, but on empowering residents to shape, lead and develop solutions that reflect the needs, strengths and priorities of their own communities.

At Moving Moi CIC, we strongly believe in this approach.
We are proud to have become one of the active nurture organisations supporting a growing number of resident-led projects across the borough, helping local people turn their ideas into safe, sustainable and impactful health and wellbeing initiatives.
Our role goes beyond administration or project delivery. We work alongside resident project leads to help them build confidence, strengthen their ideas, develop practical delivery plans, marketing advice, overcome challenges and create projects that can grow beyond their initial funding.
This closely aligns with what Moving Moi stands for: building healthier communities from within, removing barriers to participation and helping local people develop the confidence, skills and leadership to create lasting change.

Tower Hamlets continues to experience significant health inequalities, including high levels of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions, inactivity, social isolation and poor mental wellbeing. Many of these challenges cannot be addressed through clinical services alone.
Health is also shaped by whether someone feels connected to their community, whether they can access affordable physical activity, whether they have safe spaces to meet others, whether they feel confident making healthier choices and whether opportunities are culturally appropriate and accessible. Communities Keeping Well recognises this.

Through resident-led projects, people have been able to access activities ranging from culturally appropriate exercise, cycling and walking programmes to gardening, social groups, healthy cooking, creative activities, SEND support and community wellbeing initiatives.
The programme has already demonstrated how relatively small investments in local residents can create much wider benefits. CKW has supported dozens of resident-led projects, while its latest funding round continues to focus on strengthening successful initiatives, building resilience and helping projects develop sustainable models beyond the original programme funding.

One of the most powerful aspects of Communities Keeping Well has been witnessing what happens when local residents are given an opportunity, encouragement and the right support.
Across the projects we have supported and engaged with, we have seen and heard numerous stories of personal wellbeing transformation.
Residents have spoken about becoming more physically active after long periods of inactivity, improving their confidence, developing stronger social connections, reducing isolation and finding safe spaces where they feel welcomed and supported. Others have gone much further.

Some residents who initially joined programmes as participants have developed into volunteers, community champions and project leaders. Project leads have grown in confidence, developed new skills, formed organisations and begun securing additional funding to continue serving their communities.
CKW itself has demonstrated this progression, with some resident project leads developing their initiatives into Community Interest Companies and, in some cases, progressing to become nurture organisations capable of supporting other community leaders.
This is the kind of impact we believe creates lasting change.

For Moving Moi CIC, the greatest success is not simply delivering another funded programme. It is helping create the conditions where local people can eventually lead, develop and sustain their own solutions. As a nurture organisation, we aim to help resident leaders strengthen areas such as:

By strengthening the people behind community projects, investment continues to generate value long after an individual activity or funding round has finished.
We have already seen examples across CKW where resident-led projects have developed sustainable models, secured external investment and expanded their reach within local communities.
Moving Moi CIC strongly aligns with the values and intended outcomes of Communities Keeping Well.

We believe healthier communities are created when residents are:
This is particularly important within communities where traditional health interventions may struggle to reach residents experiencing language barriers, digital exclusion, low confidence, financial pressures or cultural barriers. Trusted grassroots organisations and resident leaders can often bridge that gap.

As Communities Keeping Well continues to develop, Moving Moi CIC looks forward to continuing our role as a nurture organisation and supporting even more resident-led initiatives across Tower Hamlets.
Our ambition is to help successful projects move from idea, to activity, to impact, to sustainability.
We want to continue working alongside residents, NHS partners, Public Health, voluntary organisations, community groups and other nurture organisations to strengthen the local ecosystem of health and wellbeing support.

Most importantly, we want to continue listening to residents. Because behind every programme, funding award or activity is a person.
And a project leader who may eventually go on to support hundreds more people in their community.
That ripple effect is why Moving Moi CIC is proud to support Communities Keeping Well.
Together, we are not simply delivering projects.
We are nurturing people, strengthening communities and creating the conditions for healthier lives across Tower Hamlets.
